Winners Don’t Always ‘Win’ in Pop Salad

Sunday night’s MTV Movie Awards proved that winning big in the media- and in Pop Salad- doesn’t require a trophy. Who gains the most during these award shows?

Sure, the “Best…” award winners see some attention, but often, the most press attention is paid to the unexpected moments.

Take the case of The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence, who was a shoe-in for Best Female Performance (especially since Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart wasn’t nominated this year). Lawrence landed the title and saw her score nearly double; however, that isn’t nearly the kind of score increase we saw for some of the non-winners at the show.

Host Russell Brand saw a $70,000 increase- catapulting him to the top of Pop Society-   after a joke about ex-wife Katy Perry.

Similarly, a vulgar comment was directed Mila Kunis‘ way while she was on stage presenting an award with Mark Wahlberg, making for not only an incredibly awkward moment, but a newsworthy story that more than tripled (even quadrupled for Kunis) both star’s scores.

Seems like Pop Salad traders need to look beyond standard wins when making their awards show predictions!
